Lynwood House

We had the rare opportunity to work with a young couple of enthusiastic, very receptive clients in the refurbishment and extension of this small flat located in Tooting Bec, London SW17. The project vision was very much inspired by the modernist motto, “less is more” and the brief was developed from day one with the intention of making the very best of the limited space available within the property whilst maximising the potential for extension. The existing kitchen and conservatory projecting at the rear were at the very end of their useful life – by removing these it was possible to construct a new kitchen/dining/lounge space capitalising on opportunities for plenty of natural light and increasing the internal height as much as possible. It was essential to maintain a generous garden size – this determined the choice for large glazed bi-folding doors seamlessly connecting the internal and external spaces and playing to the intense social life of our clients! What used to be the dining room was converted into the new main bedroom, retaining a small lightwell to afford natural light to all spaces, and automatically turning a tired single bedroom flat into a modern, efficient two bedroom property with a space efficient kitchen and plenty of storage space.

“Veronica was so patient and generous with her time when designing our extension and took great care to make sure that our priorities were incorporated successfully. And as soon as we had the first site visit we knew we had made the right choice in retaining vitua architects for the construction stage – Veronica was able to spot and rectify emerging issues before they became big problems. There is no doubt that having her on board during the build saved us tons of time and money.”
